Pyroxene series natalyite—aegirine in alkaline metasomatites of the Imandra-Varzuga belt, Kola Region

Abstract

The article displays results of investigation of the natalyite—aegirine series in rocks of the Imandra-Varzuga belt. Natalyite NaV[Si2O6] is the first finding in the Kola Region. This mineral has been found in alkaline metasomatites at the contact with the dolomites rocks of the Titanskoye deposit. Data on association, morphology, description of natalyite relationship with other minerals, chemical composition and results of the Raman spectroscopy are given. Natalyite occurs in the following morphology: small homogeneous crystals, zoned crystals and grains, box-like crystals, relics in amphibole (in magnesioriebeckite). The Raman spectra of natalyite and aegirine have the same shape and intensity of bands. Fe3+ and V3+ contents in group of sodium pyroxenes are shown to vary widely from vanadium species — natalyite to iron one — aegirine.
