Abstract

The paper displays data on accessory rutile in Cr-V-rich metamorphic rocks of the Sludyanka crystalline (granulite) complex in the South Baikal region. Geochemical features of studied rutile are unique by the combination of isomorphic admixtures typical as for mafic igneous rocks (Cr), so for felsic igneous and associated metasomatic rocks (W), and by contents of Nb and V which are abnormally high for metamorphic rocks. Maximal concentrations of these elements are, wt %: V2O3 —15.38, Cr2O3 — 4.33, Nb2O5 — 11.09, WO3 — 12.36. So high contents of W and V has never been described in natural rutile. The studied rutile is compared with this mineral in other Cr-V-bearing rocks in the world and rutile occurrences of diverse genetic types. There are discussed possible schemes of an isomorphic replacement and probable conditions of their realization.

Key words: rutile, metamorphic rocks, vanadium, chrome, niobium, tungsten, isomorphism.
