Abstract
The article is devoted to scientific and educational links between the Freiberg Mining Academy, Saint Petersburg Mining University, and Russian Mineralogical Society in the XVIII– XIX centuries. Some links and influences are given as examples: H.M. Renovantz and creation of the Department of Mineralogy of the Saint Petersburg Mining University; A.G. Werner, V.M. Severgin, and D.I. Sokolov regarding inheritance of the hypothesis of Neptunism and the descriptive system of mineralogy; V.M. Severgin and F.A. Breithaupt in respect of the concept of paragenesis, L. von Pansner and creation of the Russian Mineralogical Society, A. von Humboldt, G. Rose, G.H. Hess and activation of mineralogical researches in Russia; E.S. Fedorov and P. von Groth regarding the publications in the “Zeitschrift für Krystallographie”; D.I. Mendeleev and C.A. Winkler in respect of the discovery of germanium (ecasilicium).
